Reading skill is the first section on the TOEFL iBT, consisting of three to four reading passages. There are two formats on this section: short format and long format. In the short format, you will have 3 reading passages. Each reading passage is followed by twelve to fourteen questions. You will spend 20 minutes for the first reading passage; this time is strictly controlled, which means you can neither save nor exceed your 20-minute time on this reading passage. Then, you will have 40 minutes for reading passages 2 and 3 and you will be able to control the time you spend on these passages. But, you cannot exceed your time limit which lasts 40 minutes on these 2 reading passages. In the long format, you will be given 1 more reading passage.
TOEFL iBT Listening
The listening section on the TOEFL test measures your ability to understand spoken language. This section consists of six passages, each followed by five or six questions.
There are two types of listening materials on the TOEFL iBT; conversations and lectures. Both are based on the actual speech that is used in North American colleges and universities. Some of the topics are non-academic and informal and they reflect typical experiences of college and university students, some of the topics are academic and come from various fields of study.
The third section on the Next Generation iBT TOEFL test is the speaking section and measures your ability to speak about a variety of topics. There are six questions in this section: two independent tasks and four integrated tasks. All of the questions are about topics that are appropriate for international students. You do not need any special background knowledge of any subject to respond to the questions. To complete these tasks, you will speak into a microphone and your response will be recorded on the computer.
TOEFL iBT Writing
The writing section of the TOEFL iBT measures your ability to plan and write responses in essay format. You must be able to select and convey relevant information, organize and support ideas, and demonstrate that you can use English effectively.
There are two writing tasks on the writing section:

During this time the reading passage is available to you and you may use your notes. You must determine what information in the lecture relates in some way to information in the reading. Then you must organize and compose a response in standard written English. Your writing should comprise from 150 to 225 words. Your score range is from 1 to 5 graded by two qualified evaluators.
